It had been a fantastic week. The Printmakers Exhibit at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art and the Paso Robles Art Association Show at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles were two of the exhibits John and I saw. We viewed our son David’s work, as well as the work of other SLO County artists, at both sites. So much ability! We are very fortunate in our region to have so many talented artists willing to share their work with us.

It’s great to be able to say things like “mark your calendars” for upcoming activities. I haven’t been able to do that in a long time. For the 2024 Cruisin’ Weekend in Atascadero, mark Friday, Aug. 20, from 6:30-9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 21, from 5-9 p.m. on your calendar.

The 28th Annual Hot El Camino Cruise Nite will take place on Friday, while the 5th Annual Dancing in the Streets event will take place on Saturday, with a Summer Concert and Dance Party hosted by the Historic City Hall. The music for dancing will be provided by Steppin’ Out and Burning James All Stars.

Dulcie Taylor will perform at the Atascadero Summer Concert Series “Saturdays in the Park” on Saturday, July 31. Her voice is fantastic!

We’re going to get through this together, Atascadero

I hope you’ll be able to attend this year’s Mid-State Fair. Don’t miss the youngsters and their animals, as well as the Home Arts, Flowers, and Art Show. The Fair merits our attention because it receives so many submissions from our county people, as well as so much effort and work.

Our San Luis Obispo Area Assistance League is preparing for the opening of schools throughout the county. Through our Operation School Bell initiative, we want to give school-appropriate clothes to 2600 children in need this year.

Please stop by our Thrift Store, located at 667 A Marsh Street in San Luis Obispo, to support our charitable initiative, Operation School Bell. Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 805-782-0824 or go to alsloccounty.org for additional information.

With over 100 members, the Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers.

Remember to bring your gently worn coats, jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts to any of our North County cleaners in December for Coats for Kids distributions. The goods will be cleaned for free by the cleaners, and our committee will pick them up. Despite the fact that it is very hot right now, we all know that it will be terribly cold again coming winter. Your jackets will be used to keep our needy neighbors warm. Call me at 805-461-1234 for additional information.

Here’s a recipe for a fast Sangria that’s a little unusual.

Sangria with Honey and Apples Fill a big pitcher halfway with 1 (750-ml) bottle white wine. 14 cup honey, whisked in 1 cup Apple Cider (or sparkling cider) and 1/3 cup brandy, whisked together In a pitcher, combine 1 small thinly sliced apple, 1 thinly sliced lemon, and 1 thinly sliced lime. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until very cold. Serve with an apple, lemon, or lime slice as a garnish. Serve with ice cubes. 8 servings

Cheers!
